Medical Treatment Is Expensive!!!

Just look at the article I posted back in August of 2013 when Wendy had her surgery. The cost for the hospital room alone, for 2 nights was over $62,000! And that didn’t even include the surgery, anesthesia or anything else they did. That was just the room! Most expensive room rent ever! EVER!

And they don’t even have to do anything useful for that to be the case! In February of this year I took Wendy to the emergency room. After a $200.00 co-pay and 5-1/2 hours there we left with them not having treated her for the problem she went for in the first place, which was she couldn’t breathe. Instead they did several tests related to her cancer which they presumed to be the source of her problem, when in fact it was not.

And while I am on that subject I wanted to comment on the doctor, who in my opinion was a quack, and had the audacity to blame Wendy’s breathing issues on anxiety. Talk about putting the cart before the horse. Of course there was anxiety…because she couldn’t breathe! But I digress…

The main thing that irritated me was the $200 when they didn’t do anything to address her problem and wasted so much of our time. Well the explanation of benefits (EOB) came in recently and I have to say my jaw dropped! Here’s a scan of the charges made by Sutter Roseville for that ER visit. Bear in mind, they did nothing for her.

It also seems like anytime the word cancer is put into something, whether it be a treatment or even a product, the cost skyrockets! Here’s an example; when Wendy started losing her hair we looked at scarves for her to wear. Now, you could get a scarf for $5.00 at Walmart or even $1.00 at the dollar store. But the ones that were being sold for cancer patients were $50.00+ and this was the case with other items as well. Which tells me that there’s always someone out there trying to take advantage of people with cancer and milk them for every penny they can get. Disgusting!
