Phase One, Complete

I almost feel like I’m losing a friend.

Thursday, August 8th I had my FINAL follow up appointment with my cancer surgeon! He removed the rest of my staples, stitches and surgical epoxy and said “Well, my girl, you are all set. You’re all done with my services.” I just sat there with a blank stare nearly ready to cry and said “You mean I don’t have to come and see you anymore?” He just chuckled and said “Don’t have to? Or don’t GET to?” Me getting teary eyed, “I don’t GET to come and see you? What am I going to do if I can’t come and see you?” He laughed and said “You are going to have LOTS of doctors after me.” My reply, “Yeah, but they aren’t you!” He just smiled and gave me a hug and said “You are gonna be just fine. Besides, I will be keeping an eye on you. You will still have to come and see me every six months for the next few years then once a year for a few years after that.” All I could manage to get out was “Thank you so much for everything.”

And that was it. No stopping at the desk on the way out to make another appointment. No getting a little reminder card for my next appointment. Don’t get me wrong. I’m excited and happy to be through with the first part of treatment. Phase one is complete.

On to phase two….

So in order for phase two to begin I have to have a MUGA scan. The echocardiogram I had on Monday, August 5th didn’t show what my chemo doctor needed to see so she ordered a MUGA scan. I had to look that one up as I had never heard of it before. They inject you with a radioactive tracer and then take pictures of your heart to make sure it is in full working order. I’m scheduled to have that done this coming Tuesday.

Right now I want to back up a little bit. On Wednesday, August 7th I got a really nice surprise. There was a knock on my door and when I answered it there was a delivery from Edible Arrangements with a HUGE, very yummy looking fruit bouquet with the most adorable stuffed teddy bear and a separate box of chocolate covered fruit. See the picture below. Alex you are AWESOME my friend! Many thanks, love and hugs to you!!
