So I finally decided that I better get my mind wrapped around this deal and get the ball rolling. So I made an appointment to see my doctor to get my final questions answered and set up a date for surgery.
May 30th, 2013 I went to see my cancer surgeon. As before, he made me feel at ease and took the time to answer all of my questions in a way that I understood and didn’t make me feel silly or stupid for asking them. He genuinely seems to care about his patients whole well being. And did I mention that I don’t do well with doctors? More on that another time…
Anyway, after bombarding him with my many questions it was time to talk treatment plan. First and foremost is surgery. I have decided to go with a bilateral mastectomy to fully remove both breasts. I just don’t want to have to go through this again by leaving the “good” breast. So they both are coming off! Of course I will mourn the loss of my “girls”. But they way I see it, they are taking one for the team!
Tests and more tests. At the end of my appointment it was time to have an EKG. Gotta check the ol’ ticker to make sure it’s doing it’s job. And since they didn’t try to keep me or ship me off to the ER I guess I’m good to go on the heart front. Next will be my blood work either June 3rd or 4th in preparation for my surgery.
The big day is scheduled! Monday, June 24th, 2013 I will have surgery. And in an attempt to ready myself, I am going “off the grid” for a bit. I am going to take some time to just slow down, relax, and prepare both mentally and emotionally for what lies ahead. Things are going to get crazy and I don’t want to go with them!
Thanks to all who are sharing in this journey with me. The outpouring of love, support, well wishes, and prayers has been amazing! Special thanks go to my loving and devoted husband, Chris Savage. He has been and continues to be my rock!
