One Week

Well, I am one week post-surgery! Ever since I got home I have spent a great deal of my time living in my recliner, each day consisting of recurring pain medication, elevation of my legs, awkward bathroom visits (painful?) and caring for my drains. We won’t get into how difficult eating has been for the last week! Suffice it to say I have lost 30 pounds in one week!

If you are brave and don’t have a weak stomach, below are pictures of my drains (I have four of these), my incision (lots of staples, goes around a ways) and my neck where a tube travels over my clavicle to a port in my chest. This makes eating difficult as well as turning my head left/right. Click to enlarge.

I meant to get my hair cut before my surgery, but I chickened out and spent several days paying for it with a very itchy neck from my hair laying on my neck/back. I am unable to shower because I can’t get my upper body wet, so even washing my hair is out of the question. My hubby offered to chop off the lower part of my hair to help alleviate the itching. Isn’t he so brave? Below are some pictures of the haircut he gave me. He also gave my a modified sponge bath. Now if that isn’t true love, I don’t know what is.

Friday there was a knock at the door and waiting outside was a special delivery from my sister-in-law Lisa, who sent me a Get-Well Edible Arrangement. It had pineapple, strawberries, grapes and apple pieces, many covered in chocolate! It was a fun item to receive and a much needed pick-me-up! Thank you, Lisa! Below are some pictures of the Edible Arrangement from EdibleArrangments.com.

Sunday was my first real outing. Sunday was our wedding anniversary and my hubby took me out to get my hair trimmed up a bit, as well as to get it washed. I have never been so happy to get my hair washed in all my life! The young man who took care of me at Great Clips was so patient and understanding of my situation. He bravely tackled washing the greasy mop on my head, which hadn’t been washed since before my surgery almost a week earlier! He even took the time to give me a scalp massage. Below are some pictures of my updated, newly trimmed, CLEAN hair!

Then it was off to Claim Jumper for our anniversary dinner. YUM! It was the first real meal I had since before the surgery. And for dessert we went all out and got $0.50 ice cream cones from Burger King! BEST. ICE CREAM CONE. EVER!

And so that brings us up to date thus far. This coming Wednesday I have a post-op appointment with my surgeon to find out more details. Stay tuned as I will update again later this week. Thanks again everyone for all your support, prayers and well wishes!
